Poetry

2007 Poetry entries were written by students of Cherokee Middle School teacher Priscilla Arens.  Mrs. Arens is a veteran English teacher who is in her 28th year of teaching.  She says that she enjoys teaching because she wants to make a difference in the lives of her students. "Life is never boring with a group of seventh graders," Mrs. Arens says with a smile.

If you are a teacher and would like to submit poems from your class to the Springfield Review, drop by Décor Gift & More on South Campbell and give us your name, school, and phone number.  Parents are also welcome to come by and submit their children’s poems.

Featured Poem:
Making a Difference By Julia G.

I can make a difference
   just by planting a tree.

I can make a difference
  by cleaning up the sea.

I can make a difference
  helping kids  with needs.

I can make a difference
  even if it’s  just me,

But someday I hope
I can change all those I’s into we.

More Poetry: The Haiku

Dew
 By Brea H.

Soft water droplets
Speckled on the blades of grass
Flow like the ocean.

Nature
 By Connor H.

One chilly morning
The birds flew from their warm nest
In a search for food.

Wind
 By Linda H.

The wind is blowing,
Blowing with a silent sound,
Whistling with a breeze.
